Frequently Asked Questions

Why green schools?

Children, JFK once wrote, are the world’s most valuable resource. They are also our last hope for environmental renewal. Growing Greener Schools is a movement empowering students, teachers, and parents to incorporate green ideas into both school buildings and classroom curriculums -- building a foundation for a greener future. GGS Magazine is the definitive online resource for the green schools movement.

Who publishes GGS Magazine?

GGS Magazine is an initiative of MPC, a groundbreaking and award-winning non-profit media foundation dedicated to building better communities through creative content and localized outreach. In five vital arenas, the environment, education, public health, arts and culture, and food and organic living, MPC has developed essential multi-media to inspire effective local action for change.  MPC also recently launched the first worldwide online social community based on the green schools movement.  For more information, please see http://www.mediapolicycenter.org.

Can I submit an article?

Yes!  We actively accept submissions on a rolling basis.  We group our contributors into five categories: students, teachers, principals and administrators, facilities experts, and members of the community.  Send us your article along with a high-quality photograph and a short bio through our convenient online submission form.

What kind of content are you looking for?

We are looking for a wide variety of articles grouped into four general sections.  The Pulse covers current events – whatever is happening in the green schools world at the time of publication.  Op-Ed pieces are hard-hitting editorials. Spotlight articles feature a person, a place, or a process.  How-to posts are procedural (e.g., how to teach an environmentally themed class or how to change irrigation practices), and The Facts section sets the record straight on sustainability and schools.  Send us your piece today, and we’ll see if it’s a good fit for our magazine.

Are comments allowed?

Yes, we want to hear from you!  Creating an account is free and only takes a few seconds.  Join the discussion, share your experiences, and swap tips for going green.

What is the GGS Community?

The first of its kind, the GGS Community (http://www.growinggreenerschools.org/community) is the online social networking community for the green schools movement.  Join today, browse the forums, and get involved in the movement that is sweeping the country – and the world!

What is the GGS music video contest?

Get your creative juices flowing!  MPC is launching the first annual Growing Greener Schools Sustainable Music Video Contest.  The rules are simple.  To enter, you must be a student, your content must be original and not violate any existing copyright, and your video must be no longer than three minutes.  We want to see your creativity!  Full contest guidelines and submission info coming soon at http://www.growinggreenerschools.org/contest
